Found in Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Peten department of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica inm rainforests at elevations of 400 to 1700 meteres as a small to just large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with clustered, fusiform roots giving rise to 3 to 9 basal, rosulate, lanceolate, lanceolate-elliptic to elliptic-ovate, widest below the middle, shortly acuminate, narrowly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the winter on an erect, terminal, peduncle 4.8 to 14.8" [12 to 37 cm] long, rather delicate, glandular above the lower third or so, concealed by the 6 to 7, tubular, acute to acuminate, shorter than the internodes except the lowermost ones, herbaceous, glabrous, the uppermost glandular along the margin sheathing bracts, rachis 3 to 9.2 [7.5 to 23 cm] long, rather dense, spirally arranged, 15 to 40 flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, slightly asymetrical, herbaceous with hyaline margins, in the lower half externally glandular, longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying small, basally tubular, suberect, slightly divergent above flowers.
