Common Name Ormerod's Microchilus [Australian Botanist current]

Flower Size

Found in Putumayo department of Colombia in wet montane forests at elevation so 2000 to 2150 as a medium sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying 3 to 4, ovate, acute, margins undulate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the later summer on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 10.4" [26 cm] long, peduncle to 6.6" [16.5 cm] long, provided with 3 to 4 sheathing bracts, rachis to 3.6" [9 cm] long, subdensely many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate-triangular, acute, margins glandular-ciliate, as long as the ovary floral bracts and carrying externally pubescent, greenish white flowers.

"Similar to M sprucei but it differs by the lanceolate-elliptic leaves versus ovatge, floral bracts longer than the ovary versus equal to shorter than the ovary in M ormerodianus, ovate sepals versus oblong-ligulate to linear-oblong, ligulate, shortly acuminate petals versus obovate, acute petals and a cylindrical-ellipsoid spur versus a clavate spur. M ormerodianus differs from M quadratus by the indistinctly lobulate epichile versus a distincly 3 lobulate epichile. M ormerodianus resembles M subquadratus in the shape of their leaves but M ormerodianus differs in shorter, cylindrical-ellipsoid spur versus oblongoid, relatively small size of the lateral lobes of the epichile and ovate dorsal sepal versus ovate-oblong. Also M ormerodianus is similar to Microchilus borjaquijosae but M ormerodianus is distinguished by the obliquely oblong sepals of M borjaquijosae, the ellipsoid spur versus longer, cylindrical-ellipsoid, the glabrous epichile versus paillose-pubescent and the middle lobule exceeding the lateral lobules versus the lateral lobules longer than the middle one."
