Common Name The Broad Sepal Microchilus

Flower Size .08" [2 mm]

Found in Cauca department of Colombia without locational data as a small sized terrestrial with an erect, terete, leafy stem carrying 6 to 7, narrowly ovate, acute, petiolate leaves that blooms on an erect, terminal, " [9.6 to 13.9 cm] long, peduncle [8 to 12 cm] long, provided with 2, scattered sheathing bracts, rachis 5.48 to 10.2" [1.6 to 1.9 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acute, more than twice longer than the ovary floral bracts and carrying glabrous flowers of unknown colors.

"This species is very similar in floral characters Microchilus debilis from Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay. However it differs from P. debilis in having narrowly ovate leaves and flowers with a pubescent ovary. In P. debilis the leaves are ovate-elliptic to suborbicular and the flowers have a glabrous ovary. The leaf shape of P. pachysepala is much more similar to some forms of the Argentinian and Brazilian M schlehcteriana but it differs from that species in having two keels on the labellum epichile."
