Common Name or Meaning The Laminate Pelexia

Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]

Found in Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo and Parana states of Brazil at elevations around 1000 to 1250 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial or lithophyte with a few basal, lanceolate-ligulate, gradually attenuate into the base leaves that blooms in the fall on terminal, erect, peduncle to 13.6" [36 cm] long, provided with 3 to 4 sheathing bracts, rachis 1.6" [4 cm], 5 to 7 flowered inflorescence with erect-patent, lanceolate, acuminate, lower down longer than the ovary, higher up much shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

The lip of this species is diagnostic in its very large anterior lobe which occupies almost the entire anterior median part and is almost square and wide, truncated apcailly and curved downwards. Closest to Pelexia ventricosa although in P laminata the calarum formed by itrs lateral sepals are much smaller and not as inflated as in P ventricosa.

The photos by Jay Pfahl were taken in Minas Gerais on the road between Datas and Presidente Kubichek at an elevation around 1000 meters.
