Found in Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Combodia and Vietnam in open areas among granite rocks at elevations around 100 meters as a small sized, hot growing terrestrial with a globose tuber giving rise to an erect stem carrrying 2, basal, close to and partly adpressed to the soil, elongate-ovate to elliptic, unequal in size, subacute leaves grading above into 3 erect to spreading, narrowly lanceolate, acute sterile bracts that blooms in the later spring on an erect, terminal, glabrous, 6 to 8" [15 to 20 cm] long, 2 to 40 flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceolate, acuminate .35" [7 mm] long floral bracts.

"Differs from H diphylla in the larger dimmensions in all its parts, by the leaves not cordate at the base, by the inflorescence that is twice as long, with 4 times more flowers, by the lateral sepals not basally humped, with nonamastomosing veins and by the shorter bursicles." Gagnepain 1931

This species, H reniformis, H porphyricola, H humidicola, H siamensis, H humistrata, and H poilanei form a group of similar and possibly conspecific species and need more study to see if they can maintain their separate species status.
