Common Name The Giant Pleurothallis

A large sized, cool to warm growing epiphyte that is found in Colombia and Panama at elevations of 1000 to 1300 meters with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, close, tubular sheaths and another below the middle and carrying a single, apical, suberect to spreading, coriaceous, ovate, acute, acuminate, basally sessile and deeply cordate leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a successive solitary flower arising through a reclining spathe and holding the large flower close against the leaf base.
