Common Name The Tongue-Shaped Lip Liparis

Found in Sabah Borneo in lower montane forests at elevations around 800 to 1500 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with a slender, woody rhizome enveloped by short, imbicating, scarious sheaths and giving rise to close set to .4" [1 cm] between each, more or less gradually attenuate from a pyriform base to the long, closey striate neck pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, narrowly linear, acute at the complicate-mucronate apex, rigid, erect, subcoriaceous, many nerved, more or less sheathing the base of the peduncle leaf that blooms in the fall on an erect, peduncle 6.4 to 8" [16 to 20 cm] long, rachis .4 to 1.6" [1 to 4 cm] long, zigzag, , always longer than the leaf, 2 winged, successively single, few flowered inflorescence with alternatingly distichous, close set to imbricate, conduplicate, ascending, floral bracts and carrying small flowers.

"Similar to but it has an inflorescence shorter than the leaves and smaller flowers that are yellowish with a larger orange yellow lip. L lobongensis has a much larger ecallose lip and orange-brown flowers with a bright orange lip. L geelvinkensis is a much smaller plant. L gautierensis is a mich larger species than L lingulata. L gjellerupii has shorter pseudobulbs a scape which is about as long as the leaf, and a differently proportioned lip." Ames & Schweinfurth 1920
