Characterized by the slender to stout, long or short, terete or compessed ramicaul and a sessile leaf. The habit is repent or caespitose. The inflorescence, long or short, is usually simultaneously flowered or single flowered, and emerges terminally at the apex of the ramicaul. The sepals are more or less fleshy and commonly pubescent or verrucose. The dorsal sepal is usually connate only at the base to the lateral sepals which are connate into a synsepal. The petals are small and denticulate to some degree. The lip is thick, oblong, bicallous, with lateral lobes or angles below the middle and a truncate base that is often minutely lobulate at each corner. The column is terete, often winged with the anther and stigma ventral.
